Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

11. Daniel AveryNew Energy [Collected Remixes]

I like Daniel Avery’s albums and I bought all these remixes over the last year. All the people he’s chosen to remix his records are interesting people. Often you get remix packages and people haven’t thought about what they’re doing, but on this record there’s a great deal of thought being put into it. Daniel’s a great DJ and Phantasy, the label, is a really good label. I continually buy stuff on it because I really like what they do. It’s just got so many good people. The KiNK remix of ‘Knowing We’ll Be Here’ is brilliant. It’s a very musical way of taking a remix. You’ve also got the Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve mix, which is psychedelic. You’ve also got a great Audion remix on there, ‘Need Electric’. All the people on it are all people that are really important, making really great records. Powell’s ‘Water Jump’ mix is really slow, dark and minimal. I love what he does with big heavy bass lines.
