Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. Moor MotherThe Motionless Present

Moor Mother has this torque in it, this tension. What she’s talking about, the sound of it and how fast it moves, it’s uncaring in a way, but it’s there to represent something extremely real and earth-bound. I’m not aligning what I do with her at all, but that sound, that crunched up thing, it’s dreamlike in a way that isn’t about a removal from this dream that we’re in. Because things feel so surreal at times. Nobody knows what’s going on: Trump, Putin, the DUP, this is a kind of fiction, a phantasmagorical thing.
