Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

I thought, ‘Okay, this is the dawn of a new music’ when I heard it. They took it to extremes and created something that became a whole new musical expression. ‘Suburban Relapse’ for example. When I started wandering around the suburbs, I wanted to see where some of the people I really admired came from. I began in Bromley where they are from. Siouxsie came from Chislehurst, and I wanted to soak in the atmosphere if I could, it’s a beautiful place as well, so gorgeous. The Scream was like, ‘We can take it any way we like, it doesn’t have to be a three-chord thrash.’

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: The Jesus and Mary Chain, Shirley Manson
