I have to confess I collaborated with Jonathan; he’s great teacher and friend as well as a musician. Every time I play his music I realise just how much I love it – slow, nurturing. He plays guitar – he actually started out in the punk scene. But his head now is in a very different place, a healing place. His music is made with that purpose in mind.

The intention of the composer/performer means a lot. I can create music that deliberately relaxes the breathing, which encourages that, which allows the listener to breathe – or music which suggests an uncongested flow, whether that is a blood system or simply the life force. Music has the power to suggest states of freedom, openness, fluidity – a state of yogic union. A body flowing in harmony with itself. That’s the opposite of music which suggests angst, resistance, fear.
