Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. QueenSheer Heart Attack

Also a really eclectic album – it didn’t mind going down a banjos-and-seaside-ditties route, but what I really loved about it was all the vocal arrangements which were just awesome beyond words. I’d never heard anything like it. Freddie’s voice harmonising with himself, coming up with those choir arrangements for those songs and then Brian’s incredible playing. Oh my God, the whole album is just such a vibe. I put it on when I need to remind myself how good it is to be alive.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Andrew Falkous, Gary Numan
