Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. VangelisBlade Runner Soundtrack

Cold wave – it’s very now! I loved The Social Network and Inception soundtracks, because both sound very much like Tangerine Dream – and Nine Inch Nails [the band of Trent Reznor, who composed The Social Network soundtrack with Atticus Ross] have always blown me away. This, though, is still the best and most fantastic cosmic space music I’ve ever heard. The power sounds vast and epic, and yet still fragile. Surprisingly, there’s no orchestra – it’s all synths. Although in the 80s you couldn’t get it, and the only version available was an orchestral version… very frustrating!

We often go on stage to this with Killing Joke. The atmosphere is immense.
