Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. Neu!NEU!

Possibly the most influential album since The Velvets… the motorik beats is the ultimate European expression of the hypnotic driving synth pulses and the strange guitars which morph melodies into noise. This sounds way ahead of its time now, let alone 35 years ago when it came out. There’s a purity of line and form… very clean, yet still dissonant and compelling.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Yann Tiersen
