Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. FunkadelicMaggot Brain

Funkadelic is easily the most underrated band from the 60s and 70s… psychedelic, fun, absurd and overwhelming. Not only are the songs amazing – there’s a palpable sense of chaos and bizarre yet intuitive choices being made in the studio and of course Maggot Brain is the ultimate in this approach to recording and mixing. This song helped me and many other people realize that there are no rules in the studio… whatever sounds good is whatever you should do.
