Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. Panda BearPerson Pitch

I think I was a little older than 17 when I first discovered this – it was during my last year of college. I think that was the first album that I heard that’s contemporary that felt like a kindred spirit of the kind of music I’d like to make – not that I’d try to replicate something exactly. It felt really comforting to hear that album at that time because it sounded like somebody fully doing their own thing, and embracing that freedom. It felt like there was a lot of feeling in it, and I’ve always wanted to make songs in some traditional sense, but also have some weirdness in there, and this record does that.
