Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. Grace JonesIsland Life

‘Private Life’ is one of my favourite songs ever. The manifestation of her personality through music is inspiring, and she’s astonishing live. She was 60-something years old when I saw her, and she was maintaining this hula hoop performance for a solid six minutes, wearing nothing but a pair of stilettos while singing ‘Pull Up To The Bumper’. Just an indisputable legend in our lifetime. What I love about these beacons – Björk, Nina, Grace – is that anything’s possible because they made it possible.
