10. Mu
Sometimes you’ve got to refill the kettle if you want to make steam and sometimes the muse decides to take a holiday, leaving you twiddling your thumbs. The mid 00’s were a difficult time for me, I had momentarily reacquainted myself with hedonism, so I had a lot of fun but lacked any sense of direction. There were new faces and new sounds, some of which I was into, others left me cold. I felt adrift and out of touch, struggling to find a place in the new century. Labels like Trevor Jackson’s Output and the music of Chicken Lips, Inflagranti and Mu reignited my love of house music, if you could even call it that. Those records were raw, stripped back and alive, familiar, and yet completely new. It was this energy that put a spring in my step and propelled me back into the studio. I started my Deadstock 33s project in the late 00’s and have been enjoying myself ever since.
