Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. HaikaraHaikara

I could also have put Mummi Kutoo in this spot, too. In Finland we have a strong progressive rock culture, like everywhere. But progressive rock music is always copying from like, Anglo-Saxon rock. In Finland, we have good progressive rock bands like Tasavallan Presidentti and Wigwam. People around the world who are into prog rock, those are the two bands they know from Finland. But there are other really original prog rock bands, Haikara is one of them. It’s almost like classical songwriting, but the melodies, the hooks, they are fantastic. It’s difficult to understand the lyrics if you’re not Finnish. But they are pure and idealistic. There are a couple of other bands like Apollo, who were almost like the first Finnish heavy metal band, and then bands like Kalevala. I want to keep those bands alive, because everybody just knows Yes and King Crimson.
