Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. Panda BearPerson Pitch

I went to New York in 2001 and a friend of a friend knew Noah Lennox. Also, in 2002, one of my friends gave me a copy of Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished, which is a totally magical record. I love drums and I love watching drummers. I have a deep curiosity about what they do. Panda Bear is probably my favourite. So, yeah, because we were friends of a friend, I ended up getting hold of this CD-R he put out. I don’t think it even had a name. It was just unreleased Panda Bear stuff. Then he put out Young Prayer and I loved that. Then he put out Person Pitch and that record is pure magic. He was supposed to be weird, not fun and dance-y but he managed both here – plus, I thought he had probably my favourite singing voice. I still love the tone of his voice so much. It’s a magical record and I’ve totally listened to it a million times.
