Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

3. Marty RobbinsGunfighter Ballads And Trail Songs

Marty Robbins is real sublime too, and rich, his vocal delivery is like butter. If you had Jeff Buckley sing country or something, it’s just smooth vocal delivery and such great story telling. He would sit at the feet of his grandfather hearing these stories of Texas gunfighters but he was a proper songsmith. He does that iambic writing too.

He’s so sensual, when you hear him sing, he’s definitely in touch with his feminine side and you feel improved when you listen to his stuff.

One thing that’s fun to do on the internet is when you look at his song ‘El Paso’ and see it at the beginning, middle and end of his career and you see him going through his changes, he’s aged twenty years and become a man and it’s really neat. He’s really elegant with his voice.
