Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

7. Lykke LiWounded Rhymes

This isn’t one of those formative records like Kraftwerk’s Computer Love or DAF’s Gold Und Liebe. There are certain things that are in my DNA or my blood and this is one of those records that I found myself listening to over and over again.

I don’t know how I first heard it. Maybe it was on tour or someone lent it to me and just found myself listening to over and over again. I like the way that she sings in this sort of broken English. Yes, she has a nice voice and I think the songs are very nice and it’s a very romantic record. The most important thing is that the production is great and has a real Joe Meek thing and I really enjoy that part of it. It’s modern-sounding but it has this retro feel.
