Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

4. Ennio MorriconeIl Gatto A Nove Code

When I was making Love is Magic I couldn’t stop listening to this, and I haven’t been able to stop since. I was just holding it in my sweaty little paws this morning in the living room, looking at it lovingly. It’s this weird, suspenseful horror jazz – what’s not to love? It has these weird, creepy basslines, meandering like a cat down an alley. It’s so moody, dark and brooding, I can’t get enough of it. I actually haven’t seen the film. I plan to, but I kind of like the album as a soundtrack to my life. I feel like the movie will be disappointing because the backdrop that I provide to that music, everyday life, I find to be much more horrifying.
