Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

11. Scott WalkerScott 3

This record introduced me to Scott Walker. And after nerding out on all of them I really do think this is the best. I love Scott 4 but I don’t understand why that’s supposed to be on some higher tier. I think this really embraces the weird side, there’s no clunkers on it whatsoever – it’s the voice; it’s the instrumentation; it’s almost Baudelairean, this high literary euro fantasia, but also this soap opera.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Keeley Forsyth, Nadine Shah, EOB, Elias Rønnenfelt, Clark, Brett Anderson
