I’ve spent a lot of my life listening to country music through George Jones, Jerry Lee Lewis and Hank Williams, but I’ve chosen Hank Williams because of the minimalism of it. For me, it’s the source of a lot of stuff [that I took] forward to working with Marisa Anderson. We met on tour – she was playing solo and I was playing with George Xylouris – and we played a lot of country music. It’s kind of weird how we found our common ground and ended up playing together.
