Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. Jill ScottWho is Jill Scott

I love Jill Scott, she was a huge early influence for me – when I was a teenager this record was essentially all I listened to. I was in a jazz band and I played piano. Because I took jazz in school, I was always trying to find a way to integrate that within my own songwriting. She was the first artist I listened to that was doing this pop writing that was so obviously jazz music at the same time.
