Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. ElbowThe Seldom Seen Kid

I didn’t seek out Elbow, Elbow found me. Guy Garvey called me, to do an interview, and that led to me touring with them. And that led me to moving to England, and it was all during the Seldom Seen Kid album. I fell in love with one of their crew members at the time, so I was opening the set for them, doing my set, going back having a glass of wine, and then going into the audience all by myself in this process of falling in love with my now-partner, and learning this music that is really beautiful. I formed a very personal relationship with this album, and this band, and with this person, and it was through the process of night-after-night bonding with this experience, and this group of people, as we travelled along.
