Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. Syd BarrettThe Mad Cap Laughs

The Madcap Laughs, because it’s a great album.

Syd was obviously a tortured genius – a crazy diamond. If people see you as a bit of a crazy diamond, how far off the mark would they be?

I don’t know. I consider myself a totally sane person living in an insane world that I will/would never capitulate to.

He was also a bit of a recluse – ever feel like hiding yourself away?

I’m not a very social person. I don’t care to go out and socialise very often. I write by myself sometimes and with my band mates sometimes. Whatever works.
