Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

4. M83Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming

The first time I heard M83, I was impressed by this sort of dark, Pink Floyd-type of mood he had. Also working with him on this track called ‘Glory’, I really understood why his methods are very specific, and that’s because he doesn’t consider himself a singer. He considers his voice to be a musical instrument. It’s almost as though you don’t know what you’re listening to – are you listening to a song or to an instrumental piece? It’s always on the border of these and we both think that melody is the most important thing. What M83 does is so melodic, so strong with that anthemic feel. What I also like is that he has an epic dimension to him and I try to carry that onstage with my music as well. He has been an instant, massive source of inspiration – I was so happy and honoured that he was able to participate in my new album.
