Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

11. Trent ReznorThe Social Network

This was the album I was listening to the most when it was released in 2010. I’m a big fan of Trent Reznor because he’s a great producer. He also has a very specific industrial sound and he’s able to create a crazy, schizophrenic world.

Especially with Nine Inch Nails.

Both with Nine Inch Nails and with Reznor’s production work. When The Social Network was released, I was so impressed with the perfect mixture between industrial, experimental, heavy and light music. There are all these extremes and it’s a fantastic album with fantastic music. It’s very contemporary. It’s very melodic and haunting too. I didn’t choose any Nine Inch Nails in this list because it was very obvious for me in the Trent Reznor world, but this soundtrack, with Atticus Ross, is probably less so and it’s one of his works that touches me the most. For the first time, a pure electronic soundtrack has won an Academy Award and I truly believe it’s a sign of the times. It’s a very profound and deep work of art.
