Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. Terry AllenJuarez

These are the kinds of  records that, once when I got ahold of them, they just did not leave the player. And then when I travelled for a while, I seemed to be just putting them on again and again. It just seemed to fit wherever I was; if I was on the bus travelling back from the show or wherever. It just infected everything. I had initially found the spoken word radio records of his [Pedal Steal + Four Corners]. I think they were made for radio stations –a kind of storyline with songs attached. And in that weird state of the world during lockdown where everything was still unpopulated, these strange kinds of gothic horror stories seemed to make perfect sense. And then after that, I felt I should do some more digging and find the albums that preceded that and this came up. It’s like falling in love, you know? That kind of thing where you just think, ‘this is absolutely perfect’.
