Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. SNDAtavism

I’ve put this one after Loveless as they are kind of opposites. Where Loveless adds, Atavism removes. I read that this happened through a process of making more complicated tracks and removing elements recursively. What we are left with is one of the strictest records I own, and I do like it strict. Very clean, pristine synth stabs remain, almost the same in every track. There is no progression within a track, it stretches and morphs a bit but nothing that would make you think that this is going somewhere. It’s so bare, so simple, so resolute that it really makes other music seem kind of silly.
