Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. Ween – White Pepper

Ween are another of those artists I could replace any of their records, they are just one of my all-time favourite bands. White Pepper came out in like 1999 and I think it’s one of those records that I’ll never forget when I put it on and the first song ‘Exactly Where I’m At’ – I’ll never forget hearing it for the first time – it’s like this epic rock song about performance itself, that’s how I view it. I started listening to Ween when I was a freshman at high school coming up to 2000, and I think the mélange of what they do and their sense of humour mixed with these heart-breaking ballads. I love the stew of what they do – they can be whimsical, they can be heavy – they’re just incredible musicians and songwriters. To me, White Pepper is an amazing snapshot and a great collection of songs. They’re kind of like Beck – they’ve always delivered – and also some of it is just so fucking juvenile.
