Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. Rolling Stones – Exile On Main Street

I guess there’s been a lot of talk of this lately with Keith’s book and the reissues. But it’s just cool; I’ve always liked The Stones, and for me it was always The Stones over The Beatles. With this one, it’s like they’re finally out from under the cloud of The Beatles. It’s good because there are so many songs on it, but it’s easy to listen to a lot because they’re not too great, in a way – just the whole sound of it is cool, somehow.

My wife’s been listening to it a lot recently, but I’m already pretty saturated with it. Was it a choice to please her? No, I’ve just heard it so much. It’s not all hits and stuff; it’s bad enough that you can listen to it a lot.
