5. Roxy MusicCountry Life
Everybody says the first two Roxy Music albums or Stranded, but I’m actually going a bit left field with their fourth album, Country Life. Firstly because it had that amazing picture on the front of those two girls in their scanty underwear, which for a young guy at the time was fucking mind-blowing. You could spend a lot of time with that album without actually playing the record. But when you got around to it, every single musical trend of the eighties is anticipated in Country Life. I can’t think of one that isn’t. Everybody who made a record in the eighties and was on Top Of The Pops seemed to have listened to that record. The feel of it, the arrangements, the epicness, the guitar work, the instrumentation… Everything I heard in the eighties seemed to have come from there.
