10. Thin LizzyJailbreak
Thin Lizzie is getting off at a bar with someone music. It’s so sexy. I love Phil Lynott. For me, it’s Hendrix and Phil Lynott. There’s a sentimental thing for me with Jailbreak too. When I was growing up in Houston, I would go spend the summers with my grandparents in West Virginia. My uncle was still living with my grandparents and he had a great record and 8-track collection: Thin Lizzy, Ozzie, AC/DC, and I made up dance routines. I had a whole dance routine for ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ by AC/DC. I was so into it. I knew Thin Lizzy around the time too, and I liked them.
Then fast forward to 2003, just after I’ve met David. With a couple of friends we did a road trip across the country from Philly to Minneapolis for De Stijl records’ second festival. On the way we stopped at a random hotel, and the band that was playing that night was a Thin Lizzy cover band named Jailbreak. It was Middle America, and it was the hotel band, so all the locals came to this hotel. It was such a fucked up scene, a freaky scene, but we danced all night to Jailbreak, and then we listened to that record the whole time on that trip, so I really associate it with getting together with David, and that excitement before I was about to move to Scotland.
