Singer-songwriters have always been closest to my heart, because it’s how I started: the first songs I wrote were rip-offs of Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon and Carole King. Being a good songwriter demands many different things, but for me the melody and composition comes first. That’s mostly how I make music. Listening to Tapestry was a good inspiration to have when I started writing music. What I really like about it, and other singer-songwriter albums, is that they’re dogmatic, almost: it’s all about the song. I like that they cherished the song at that time. A lot of music today is more about a hook, or a sound, but then it was about the whole song. That really appealed to me.
