The West Coast is where I feel like I belong. I travel to LA a lot, and this is the sound of LA. The LA scene is blossoming again; it’s a much more interesting place to be than other cities for music, because a lot of musicians are going there now because they want to create something, and they’re hungry for new relationships and collaborations. That makes it easy to meet people and create new art. A lot of Norwegians have started going to LA. But I don’t know if it can ever be what it was in the 60s and 70s: I’m in love with that whole scene. I’m not naive about it, but the fundamentals of what they built their work on was really good, because the music was the most important thing. The industry stuff came after the music, but the musicians wanted to make the best song or the best album.
