Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

6. DarksidePsychic

This is a kind of ambient electronic record but with blues guitar. For me I just loved this while we were making our record, a very nocturnal, very brooding kind of record. It has a beautiful way of meshing quite traditional guitar with very trancey and electronic sounds. It was a real influence on Boy King, in truth.

I think there’s a sense of the abyss across the whole of our record: the danger, almost a narcotic element. I say that ‘He The Colossus’ is apocalyptic in some sense. But ultimately it is a party record, so it wears its heaviness lightly. It’s supposed to be a joyous response to the heaviness of adulthood. It’s almost a ‘fuck you’ to adulthood.
