Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. Fred AgainFrom The River To The Ocean

I did quite a few recordings with Fred, but that’s a very special one. The person who gave that record its title was Josh Abrams, who plays in Natural Information Society. I was trying to think of a title, because it was a record under Fred and myself and I said: ‘Josh, do you have any ideas?’ And he thought about it and said: ‘Why don’t we call it From The River To The Ocean‘ I said: ‘Great’ [laughs]. That’s a very important record because it has some of Chicago’s really fine artists on it, much younger than Fred of course. Jeff Parker, Josh Abrams, Harrison Bankhead. A lot of very important Chicago people on that recording.
