11. Converge/Agoraphobic NosebleedThe Poacher Diaries
Honestly, this was just a way to sneak two records in at once! I love The Poacher Diaries because I was already a big Converge fan at the time: Jane Doe, I mean I fucking love that record, again and again, from beginning to end. That record had a lot to do with my getting into heavier music in general. It made listening to all this other stuff possible that I wouldn’t have been able to get into before. Also, The Poacher Diaries was the first time I ever heard Agoraphobic Nosebleed, and when I was listening to it I didn’t realise that it wasn’t a real drummer, and I was completely astounded! How the fuck is this guy doing this? I just thought it was real you know, listening to it on my little, tiny computer speakers in my room. But actually, the Agoraphobic tracks on this record are really, really good, and a little longer than most of the tracks they have… Really I’m just sneaking in Altered States of America though, because I really love that record. Again, from beginning to end, I just think it’s so weird and cool. I don’t really like that machine-gun drum-machine sort of thing in grindcore, but I love the way they do it in Altered States Of America – it’s really funny. Plus it’s got this oozing quality, and I just love it. 99 tracks long and it’s on a tiny, mini CD. It makes sense as a single composition too.
