When his album [The Carnival] came out, that song on that record was just fucking unbelievable. Having the I-Threes backing him was just incredible and for me, it was just the most slept-on record he’s ever done. I remember listening to it when I used to drive around San Diego delivering pizzas and shit – it used to make me cry every time I heard it.

I chose this song above his others because it’s the one that’s not about him personally. Some of the songs that he’s rapping or singing is all about his shit – this isn’t. This is about humanity and the crisis that we’re all in. It was his first song that was about everyone else and not him and that resonated with me.
