Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

7. Muddy WatersElectric Mud

This was a concept album really. I read somewhere that he just wanted to make a concept album using psychedelic musicians. I love his down-south blues stuff but when I first heard this I thought, "this must have influenced Jimi Hendrix", but I’m really bad at dates and stuff like that.

I love psychedelia, I love psychedelic music, and I love the grittiness of this record. Some people take concept albums really seriously but this sounds like a lot of fun, like it was a lot of fun to make. I’m always drawn to music like that, music that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but still create something of quality. I really want to get it on vinyl.
