Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

6. Paul SimonGraceland

I love the fact that an artist like Paul Simon, an American artist, went to Africa and created this masterpiece in South Africa. It’s a combination of American songwriting with African rhythm. I’ll always be a massive fan of anything trying to combine different genres and not stick to just one path. At the time it was seen as something completely out of the ordinary. He’s a great songwriter and he’s very experimental and creative in what he does and this is a perfect example of that. I love the fact that you put it on and someone will always know something from it. It’s stood the test of time, it’s still as good as when it first came out.
