Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. Peter GabrielPassion: Music For The Last Temptation of Christ

Until maybe recently, it seemed a bit uncool to like Peter Gabriel. There’s even an episode of Peep Show with a horrendous, dweeby character who is a big “PG” fan. But I think Gabriel’s legacy as a pioneering world musician, who has supported and worked with artists around the globe, has been forgotten. On this soundtrack, you can especially hear the influence of Middle Eastern instrumentation and vocal styles brought together with electronics, a combination that I’m continually returning to again and again in my own music. I can’t recommend the film though. It’s completely cringe, even with William Dafoe playing Jesus.
