Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. T-RexThe Slider

I was a massive T-Rex fan and I had Electric Warrior and all that stuff and The Slider came out in my earlier years it was the album that outshone everything. I was huge fan anyway and the band was massive and then The Slider came out. You know, some bands that come out get to a certain level and they’re really happening and then they put out an album and you go, ‘Aww… no, that’s not what you should have done’ and it’s all a little bit disappointing and it all fades away. They didn’t; they put out The Slider which was just genius.

Song after song after song… and the title track; it’s a not typical album-title track. You’d normally go for one of the big singles and ‘The Slider”s got a very slow, lazy groove thing. It’s just great. It’s just the sexiest track. When I was a kid I thought it was the sexiest track ever. I loved it. It’s got a really strange, chugging groove to it and a brilliant chorus.
