Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

3. The StoogesFun House

A band we sample a lot! I like this record more than the others from The Stooges – it’s something about the sound, because of Don Gallucci (one-time Kingsmen member, producer of Fun House). Lots of people wanted that sound, even the Pistols tried to get Don Gallucci.

There is something about the guitar sound and the atmosphere of the whole – it sounds a bit like a jam, but it’s just really raw. It also foresaw many tendencies in rock music. You can feel the punk attitude, like metal without being metal – it sounds like wood. It has an incredible range, but also control, and also chaos. It has a live feeling to it that’s fantastic.
