Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. Alex TurnerSubmarine

I love that movie so much! I fell in love with the soundtrack. I had heard ‘Do I Wanna Know’ and the hits of that era from Arctic Monkeys, but to this day this is my favorite stuff Alex Turner has done. I’ve seen Arctic Monkeys live now and they’re so incredible and I love their first album so much, but there’s just something about this album that’s amazing.

This is one of the first soundtracks – maybe besides Scott Pilgrim – that I listened to without the movie, and I was obsessed with the album separately from the film. It made me respect Alex Turner so much more, because it felt like it was just him in a room somewhere doing it all on his own. I love Submarine, it makes me think of being 13.
