Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

7. Lijadu SistersHorizon Unlimited

The album cover has their faces with this expressway, and it reminds me of when we used to take trips at Christmas: driving from the capital, which was Lagos at the time, back to Akwa Ibom in the south where my family is from. The expressway takes me back to those journeys, when we’d listen to Lijadu Sisters on the drive up – my grandad would play them on the radio. I like that it’s just raw, simple vocals – they were just doing their thing.
