10. Dinah WashingtonMad About The Boy: The Best Of Dinah Washington

In the same way as Melanie, Dinah Washington does the comedy and tragedy mixture really well. When I was a kid and I saw a Levi’s commercial on MTV – which was a huge thing in my life at the time – with the song ‘Mad About The Boy’ [singing] "I’m mad about the boy. But since it’s stupid to be mad about the boy…" You saw these women, who were around the age I am now, looking at this young actor and just drooling! It’s comical but it’s true as well! Falling in love with this screen babe. There’s sadness in the song because there’s this goodbye, as well as lust and passion and shame! It’s so brilliant, absolutely perfect songwriting.
