2. GravediggazSix Feet Deep
I don’t know what it is about that album. The production on it is so good, all the samples… It’s really ridiculous. It’s really violent and scary and funny at the same time. It’s got a bit of the Wu-Tang obviously, because RZA’s on it. It’s all cascading piano lines and weird spooky Theremins, and they’re all singing about having their eyelids sewn shut and chewing their arm off and things like that. It’s very cartoon-esque in its way, but, ever since I heard it, the production has stayed with me and seeped its way in, especially with this new record. I’m a bit obsessed with RZA and always have been ever since I saw Ghost Dog, and he did the soundtrack for that. I like the cut of his jib!
I don’t know why people don’t talk about it more. Whenever they talk abut the greatest hip hop album ever made, they talk about Nas’ Illmatic, they say It Takes a Nation, Public Enemy, Fear of A Black Planet or whatever. They never seem to talk about this one.
