1. David BowieZiggy Stardust
There’s so much you can pick with Bowie, but as I did with all of these when I was trying to pare the list down I thought what have I consistently listened to? It’s like that with Ziggy Stardust. There are sentimental things, like Black Star, but this album is really rounded, it’s the context of how its written and when that makes it amazing. I first heard it when we were just kids. My sister was three years older than me and she had friends who were more into music than her. When me Bon and Dave first got together we’d trawl back over the Bowie back catalogue, and some of that process was reconnecting with it, partly because of In The Flat Field by Bauhaus. The odd thing is that when you’re young the things you think you remember are maybe just informed by collective memory or newsreel or whatever, but I seem to remember very clearly that when he was doing gigs at the Rainbow there were screaming kids on the telly. Whatever it is, this serves a nostalgic purpose for me, growing up, being a kid, and the transition into adulthood.Â
