Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

5. Aphex TwinSelected Ambient Works 85-92

I discovered this when Jake and I started working together. It’s a very beautiful, gentle side of his nature. It’s great, – when I heard it I thought ‘I want to make music like that’. It’s thoughtful, it doesn’t make me want to go and leap around, you want to sit and listen to it. I can’t listen to music when I’m making work, though sometimes we have nosebleed techno because it makes people work fast and get angry. I can’t listen to music and do anything else, if I’m listening to music I want to listen to it. Though when I’m making music and I can draw or watch DVDs at the same time. It’s one-way traffic.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Neil Halstead, Lou Rhodes, Bat for Lashes
