Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

1. Fred FrithGuitar Solos 1974

This is an old one… my brother, my sister and myself all played guitars as kids, my brother still does. I was interested in the idea of different ways of playing guitar, and I discovered this record when I was quite young. It’s funny because now I still like it a lot, but I sometimes think ‘just play the guitar the normal way’, But it’s a great record, I think he’s a really interesting guitarist. He did some really interesting records with Evelyn Glennie as well. I’ve stopped trying to copy him now though. I haven’t used any instruments on the record, but I’ve since got my guitar out, dusted it down and used a recording I’ve made with that on a track that I’m working on at the moment. I like the idea of actually making instruments.
