9. Talking HeadsMore Songs About Buildings And Food
This is pure nostalgia. I saw them in I think it was 1977, I was very lucky. I lived in Hastings in 1976 and it was the year that every single punk band came down to Hastings, every week there were three bands. I saw Talking Heads with Joy Division, that was a good evening. They stood out because they seemed quite sophisticated, their songs were quite interesting, the lyrics were interesting. David Byrne has always been interested in words, he’s the opposite of me. I’m literally not interested in lyrics. One of my favourite records of all time is ‘Take Me To The River’ and I know it’s not theirs but they did such a good job of it. They were exotic as well, because they were American, and they weren’t like the punk bands that I saw, they were a little bit less rock & roll. And they had Tina Weymouth.
