I’m a big fan of hers [Liz Harris] – her visual art is really, really good. She’s friends with friends, but it’s not nepotistic; I don’t know her, I just really love her music and her art. She made this record at a residency in Portugal, so it’s the middle of nowhere, and it’s just a piano and her and you can hear that. I love those kinds of records. This is a totally reliable record: it’s really haunting and sparse, poetic and sad in a way. But also it’s incredible well-constructed: the melodies are very direct and beautiful. She’s doing it right. The sparseness on Ape In Pink Marble was never an intentional thing, though – that’s just the way I’m writing right now.
