Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

5. Beach HouseDepression Cherry

Beach House are, to me, possibly the greatest band still active in the world. They’re insane. I could have gone with Bloom or any of their records, but Depression Cherry really hit me. I was in Berlin when it came out, riding my bike and listening, and thinking: damn, this band is on another level. Everything they do is so good, so distinct. It just stays with you.

I recently had a fan-off with my friend Brendan Yates from Turnstile. He’s from Baltimore, like Beach House, and we realised we’re both obsessive about the band. We went deep on their magic, on how incredible their music is. Depression Cherry might be the most recent album on this list, but it already feels like a modern classic. And that title? Depression Cherry. I’m still jealous I didn’t think of it myself. It’s perfect.
